AC Cobra 427 Re-Creation by Crendon 1979/P-Plate (1979)

The car was built by an ex military aircraft engineer working for 8 years on both structural as well as mechanical aspects. The car has covered around 4300 miles and has 12 months MOT. It is correctly registered as a Crendon and has an ‘old timer’ private number plate which means it can be exported. These cars are popular on the continent and worldwide.
I have many of the original build invoices and a photographic record of the build.
Based on an original period car (CSX3042) and built using all new components with the exception of the Jaguar running gear which was supplied completely stripped and re conditioned in the rolling chassis by John Kerr of Crendon.
Crendons are rightly considered by many to be top of the UK re-creation scene for authentic appearance 427 Cobras and often mistaken for the real thing.
The chassis is a standard Crendon rolling Chassis with twin 4" Tubes and is almost identical to the original chassis with the only real differences being "pick up" points to accommodate the Jaguar Running Gear/Axles etc.
The body is the later Crendon type, and good high quality GRP. The metallic blue colour is actually a correct period colour from a 60’s Mustang/Cobra. The paintwork was done by Paul's Motor bodies in Barwell near Hinckley who have painted more than half of all Crendons made to date. The body has all of the classic 427SC details, small projecting "lips" on the rear arches, correct shape air intake, no plinths for the lights and "slab" rear end. Inner wings are aluminium panels, again to give a closer replication of an original car, with aluminium firewall.
The car is finished with stainless steel side pipes, stainless steel Single Roll Hoop with brace and glass wind wings. The interior is again very period 427SC, black edged carpets, painted door interiors and trimmed hinge covers, period leatherette trimmed dash with anticlockwise Speedo, Motolita period wheel, correct original equipment type VW indicator stalk, vertical handbrake lever, dummy reverse lockout shift, correct switch layout period dash mount rear view mirror, the boot is also fully fitted with carpet on press studs.
1971 - Ford Cleveland 351Ci
The block is an Australian 302Ci block, the later square block type, with all of the internals stripped out and replaced with original 4MU 351 Cleveland Crankshaft and Rods. All other engine components were bought brand new.
The Australian blocks are better quality than the American Cleveland blocks of the same era, with better bore concentricity due to less core shift, and thicker base flange casting.
The block was fully cleaned, machined and bored +030". All relevant rotating components were dynamically balanced, prior to assembly (rods, pistons, crankshaft, damper etc).
Heads: Australian 2V 'quench' with 4V valves guides
Aussie 2V 'quench' heads, 2 dimple closed chamber, 302 heads, fitted with 4V valves, and lead free seats; Heads machined and converted for roller rockers.
Camshaft: Comp Cams 270H Magnum is a good cam for high performance driving in street machines. The 270H is designed to be used with tubular headers and a 4 barrel carburettor.
Cam Followers: Comp Cams hydraulic flat tappet anti-pump hydraulic lifters.
