1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia GT Veloce (1967)

AUCTION

Report

Description

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce was very similar to the original Giulia Sprint GT. It featured minor modifications to the engine, providing just 3 bhp more power, but significantly improved torque. It can be most easily distinguished from other models by features such as the grille had black mesh and 3 horizontal chrome bars, the front seats revised to a mild “bucket” design, stainless steel bumpers, as opposed to the chromed mild steel bumpers on the Giulia Sprint GT. The bumpers are the same shape, but made in two pieces (front) and three pieces (rear) with small covers hiding the joining rivets.

Early Giulia Sprint GT Veloces featured the same Dunlop disc brake system as the Giulia Sprint GT. Later cars replaced this with the ATE disc brakes as pioneered on the GT 1300 Junior in 1966. The ATE brakes featured an interesting and more effective handbrake system on the rear brakes, which incorporated drum brakes inside the disc castings. A total of 14,240 Giulia Sprint GT Veloces were made before production finished.

This particular Guilia GT Veloce was first registered in the sunny Sicilian town of Catania in 1967 where it seems to have stayed most of it’s life and it is great order throughout. Meticulously maintained and raced in local hill climbs and events by the current owner in Trento, Northern Italy. Trento is more or less the home of hill climbs as it is very close to Madonna di campiglio and Cortina and a lot of hill climbs start from this area.

A car properly prepared for road or rally use, this represents a very rare opportunity, as it is almost impossible to find a Veloce, never mind in this good condition, for sale anywhere in world at any time, truly not an occasion to be missed for the Alfa collector or pursuer of fine arts as is this little car.
