Bentley R Type
The Bentley R Type was first known by the production as the Bentley Mk VII and then the Bentley7 until it was named as the R Type. With 2320 R Types built at Crew between 1952 to 1955 of which 255 chassis were for special bodied cars. The car with its re-designed and refined boot following customer concerns with the Bentley Mk VI, made the rear of the car more stylish and with a larger boot space.
The R Type was the first Bentley to be driven by an automatic gearbox and with the first automatics delivered to the States. The American General Motors Hydra-Matic proved to be a success, offered as an optional extra. The car was realistically price at £4824.00.
This very stylish Bentley R Type finished in two tone blue with a lavish brown hide interior. First supplied to Major R Orred of Sunninghill, Berks on Febuary 1954. Major Orred, listed a number of options to be supplied with the car, which are still on the car today.
The car is one you can take anywhere, be seen any where and will never be out of place in the most elegant of surroundings. A modest car with an ease to drive, with the GM Hydra-Matic gearbox, it performs with grace.
The car has only had three previous owners and comes with a very compressive service file with many recent invoices from known Bentley repairers. The engine has had a major overhaul and fitted with harden valve seats, so to run on un-leaded fuel. The rear axle was re-built and up-graded to house a higher ration giving a more comfortable high speed cruising speeds. The gearbox has recently been full overhauled.
The panels are in very good shape, with excellent panel gaps and the interior is in first class condition, including roof lining and carpets. The car has been fitted with a James Young spare wheel cover housing the full Bentley tool kit.
The previous owner of 30 years was quite fastidious and addressed any issue the car may have had with the local known Rolls Royce/Bentley specialist, that’s why the car is in such good shape as it is today.
The car is not concours, although it has been used and cared for over the years to a very high standard, a car you could effortlessly drive to the South of France tomorrow and turn up in style and ease.
