The Fiat 500 (Cinquecento) was designed by Dante Giacosa and the first model the 'Nuova' was introduced in July 1957. It was an inexpensive, practical, utilitarian vehicle that was perfect for families. There was seating for two adults and three children and it measured just 10 feet long and was initially powered by a 479cc two-cylinder air-cooled engine but later models were uprated to 499cc and eventually 549cc.
In 1960 the '500D' was introduced with the uprated 499cc Engine and a few smaller cosmetic changes, but most noticebly the full-length 'transformabile' roof was replaced with a steel roof and smaller fold-back roof.
Due to the demand for the full length fold back sun-roof, many cars were converted back to the 'transformabile' roof by Fiat dealers and coach-builders and we are led to believe that Fiat did actually produce a small number themselves.
This fabulous and rare Fiat 500D was built in Fiat's Mirafiori factory in December 1963 and was first registered in Italy on 28th January 1964. Finished in Dark Blue with Red vinyl trim, original rubber mattting, a full 'Transformable' Black vinyl fold back Sun Roof, 'Suicide' Doors, 499cc Engine, 4 Speed Gearbox and period fittings. Owned by last family in Italy for 28 years and in beautiful condition throughout having received a sympathetic restoration during 2011 in Italy. This is a lovely car to drive and it will make an excellent investment. The car will be MOT’d, UK registered & fully serviced upon sale and come with our own 6 month Mechanical Warranty.
