Description
1965 Jaguar E type series 1 Roadster finished in Old English white with full red hide interior.
We are proud to be able to offer this truly exceptional and fully restored E type Roadster which we sold to the current owner some 15 years ago. At the time he had just finished a full restoration of a similar car. The word “Restoration” is often used and abused but in this case it is probably an understatement. This car won two Jaguar Driver's Club concours trophies in summer 2012 including "Best E-Type" and "The Chairman’s Trophy".
On taking delivery he used the car for a short while before deciding to completely rebuild the car.
He is probably one of this country’s leading experts on “E” type Jaguars and has a wealth of knowledge and experience and was thus able to tackle this rebuild in a very organised fashion.
During the rebuild, the car has been completely dismantled including the removal and replacement of the front frames, at which point any corrosion found has been completely eradicated. The body shell was then correctly prepared, primed and painted and the result is the most perfect depth of paint finish imaginable. The detail beneath the bonnet and within the door shuts and filler cap area is as good as on the bonnet and the underside of the car would pass even the most critical of inspections.
Needless to say every other component such as suspension, brakes, rear carriage, differential unit, etc have all been thoroughly overhauled and either painted, plated or powder coated as appropriate. It is fitted with a new stainless steel exhaust system, new high performance radiator core, new wiring looms and a new balanced clutch and propshaft.
All of the interior trim and the mohair hood have been replaced using the highest quality materials and the hood frame has been resprayed . All of the chrome on the car has also been either replaced or re-chromed.
The car has only had two owners, including the current one, in the last 43 years. The car has a comprehensive service history dating back to 1970 and it's original green log book. It became obvious from the documentation, that the engine which has only covered 64,000 miles from new had been extremely well looked after with oil services every 1,000 miles whilst in the hands of the previous owner. Rather than strip and rebuild the engine, all the chains, tensioners, cams, valve clearances have been thoroughly checked and new core plugs fitted; the block has been painted, cylinder head polished, all new plugs and conduit fitted together with a reconditioned distributor, reconditioned carbs using new jets, springs and diaphragms and all of the aluminium has been polished to original finish. The water pump has been reconditioned and a new header tank fitted together with all new hoses, new oil pressure sender unit, compression tested and direct line oil pressure tested and is completely within manufacturers tolerances.
This car is probably one of the most correct “E” Type roadsters there is. Very few people have the knowledge of the original specification of these cars as they were when they left the factory and the build of this car has benefitted from over 25 years experience and knowledge of the detail. There is not the same level of detailed information available on the rare series 1 4.2 car, but because of the restorer’s experience this car is perfect.
This is an opportunity for a collector to acquire a perfect Series 1 E type Roadster at reasonable cost.
