PORSCHE 911 964 Targa RS (1990) POA
- Location: Essex, United Kingdom
When Porsche launched the 964 they claimed 87% of the car had been redesigned when it replaced the 3.2 Carrera. Whether this was entirely true, there is no doubt that the engine, driveline and suspension, and heating system were all new offering a much more modern driving experience with increased performance, power steering, and effective heating.
The 964 Carrera was also the last generation sold with the traditional removable Targa roof. Later evolutions of the Targa, starting with the 993 generation, replaced that setup with a complex glass-roof "greenhouse" system.
In 1992, Porsche produced a super-lightweight, version of the 964 dubbed Carrera RS for the European market. It was based on Porsche's 911 "Carrera Cup" race car and harked back to the 2.7 and 3.0 RS and RSR models.
Special features of this ever popular "RS" line, included lightweight magnesium wheels, increased power output to 260 BHP, a track-oriented suspension system, a stripped out interior and even the power steering was gone.
It was this brutal simplicity that made the car shine and now 20 years on has to be in the top ten highly sought after models.
With decent low mileage 964 RS models now costing in excess of £80,000, combined with not being in every shop window, surely building a replica to your own taste for less money now makes sense.
This is exactly what the owner of this stunning Targa had done, using all genuine and brand new components combined with a rare and hard to find set of BBS Magnesium wheels - we all agree he has made something rather special and exciting.
Starting with the best example he could find, a low mileage Targa with good history and lovely to find air conditioning got the ball rolling.
Completed no less than 4 years later the car now has the following specification:
Bilstein Adjustable Dampers F/R
RS Solid Top Mounts F/R
