TRIUMPH TR6 (1975) £19,995
- Location: Bristol, United Kingdom
TR6 bodywork closely resembled that of the previous model, the Triumph TR5, with the front and back ends squared off - reportedly based on a consultancy contract involving Karmann - this is referred to as a Kam-style back, which was very common during 1970s era cars.
All TR6 sports cars featured inline six-cylinder engines. For the US market the engine was carburetted, as had been the US-only TR250 engine. Like the TR5, the TR6 was fuel-injected for other world markets, including the United Kingdom, hence the TR6PI (petrol-injection) designation. The Lucas mechanical fuel injection system helped the home-market TR6 produce 150 bhp (110 kW/145 hp DIN) at model introduction.
The TR6 featured a four-speed manual transmission. An optional overdrive unit was a desirable feature, giving drivers close gearing for aggressive driving with overdrive available on 2nd, 3rd and top gears on early models, yet “long legs” for open motorways. TR6 also featured semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, 15-inch (380 mm) wheels and tyres, pile carpet on floors and trunk/boot, bucket seats, and a full complement of instrumentation.
The TR6 can accelerate from zero to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.2 seconds and has a top speed of 120 mph.
The full “body off” restoration of this particular car was completed three years ago to the highest standard, costing in excess of £24k, with only 500 dry miles since. The car is in “better than new” condition, with subtle upgrades such as leather seats, quality carpets, walnut dashboard and stainless steel twin exhausts. This is a great opportunity to own an iconic British sports car.
Vehicle history: The last owner had the car for seven years and commissioned the “body off” restoration, where the body was completely refurbished using new panels (where required) and repainted in the original yellow to concourse standard. The chassis and all suspension components were repaired/replaced and painted to the original specification. All mechanical aspects were rebuilt (engine, gearbox, rear axle etc.) and the fuel injection system has been comprehensively overhauled, with a new metering unit, injectors, braided hoses, fuel pump and pressure relief valve. The history file contains numerous receipts for parts and work, also many old MOT certificates.
