Well there is a lot to be admired in the work to build that Zippo job on a Chrysler chassis. Those were the days of craftsmanship and imagination.

Of course the later use of glass-fibre allowed more bizarre creations, so the Outspan oranges or similar would have been possible too.

But how about these even earlier examples...

A Thermos flask built on a 1925 Ford Model TT one-ton chassis,

And a boot promoting a shoe store on what may be an early Chevrolet chassis.

Fresh catch,

By coincidence yesterday I spot another VW Type 2 BayWimdow  at Lisbon center. This one is a promotional vehicle from a  famous ice cream brand (its a pity but I arrived just after in the end of the "free for all Ice Cream Day")

Another from the T archives; not so much of a "Brilliant" or "Wacky" promotional vehicle but this one is at least seasonal promoting the word of the Lord.

Good find! I'll bet that was getting a lot of attention! It's just a shame you didn't get your free ice cream!

I'm sure I've seen images of it before. Maybe it gets about a lot!

Thank you Petrolhed,

I have arrived to late for free ice cream, and after 3 photos, the camera battery die.  Usually i take a more photos and select a few to post, by chance one from the 3 is ok as I can't say the same about the otther 2 ...

Its a pity as there is a nice end of party ambiance and i can't get more pics.

Not quite what James had in mind at the start of this thread, but a mid twenties Dodge van has been used for quite a while to promote a bakery in Huskisson NSW. A clean restoration, a bit of sign-writing and it more than pays for itself.

But probably one of the best known of the genre - at least in Britain - was the famous Worthington Beer Daimler TL30 'bottle' cars. In fact five were built in 1924, of which it sems two survive, one of them in the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu.

Fresh catch

A London Bus used as an advertising vehicle, spotted far away from its  natural habitat at Oporto seaside suburbia.

Again the graphics are not brilliant
