Legend has it that it is Storm Thorgerson's own Lancia Flavia, but I have seen other suggestions (and despite the quote below, it still doesn't look right to me). For those that can't see the cover it is Peter Gabriel's 1977 album with him sitting in a car in the rain.

Here's a quote about it from Thorgerson: "On the bonnet of this vehicle sat myriad drops that were being shaken by the vibrating cab.....I thought, "That looks cool, can I duplicate it one day?" Which is how Peter Gabriel came to be sitting, looking furtive in the front seat of my beloved Lancia Flavia which had been heavily dowsed with a garden hose, the car not Peter, I hasten to add."

Thanks for that James, I've been wondering ever since I bought it on vinyl around 1980. After a bit of searching it may well be a Flavia. This picture of a Lancia Flavia 2000HF, albeit taken from the opposite direction, shows a similar thickness in the wing, a square bonnet edge and looks very similar around the base of the A-pillar. Whatever it is, it makes a fantastic image on a superb album.

My apologies to those who have been unable to see the pictures that I posted but I have just noticed the advice on posting pictures! ... and yes, I am one of those people who never read the instruction manual...
