Really disappointed with Classic and Sports car subscription :(

My wife kindly purchased six months subscription as a Christmas present. I've purchased the magazine for more years than I would care to remember, and really appreciated the gesture.

However the terms were a six month subscription. I am really disapointed that C&SC have stooped to the nastier end of internet selling, by slipping in automatic renewals. She has now been billed for a further six months because she didnt pour through the small print and cancel automatic renewals.

Come on guys I would have purchased the magazine anyway!!....This however is just a little bit seedy and nasty. Sorry my first post is a negative one.

Hi smileymikey,
Really sorry to hear you've had a bad experience with our subs team. Email me with your details (you'll find it in the magazine), and I'll ask someone to look into it. Hopefully we'll be able to sort out getting a refund for your wife.
I do hope it doesn't sour your enjoyment of the mag too much.

Hi smileymikey,

I see that you have misread 'Alastair' and changed it to 'Alistair'.... could it be that you have emailed the wrong person?

Just a thought!

Whilst it's nice to see senior C&SC bods doing what they can to ensure the continued happiness and wellbeing of their readers, am I the only one who is unable to see a problem here?

The OP states that he was going to be buying the mag anyway so presumably he's saving money by getting it at the subscription rate, hardly a situation that requires some form of compensation.  Again, maybe it's just me but I'm also of the opinion that if I'm going to be handing my credit card/bank account details over to someone then it's in my own interest to read the print, no matter how small, and ensure I understand the terms of the contract rather than whine about it subsequently.

here, here dinsdale! Far too much common sense in your post me thinks.

smiley, this doesent need it's own thread, certainly not under 'classic chat'. They have agreed to sort out your grievance, please phone them, we don't need to know!

James yes email address is correct

Dinsdale, I wasnt crying and ripping my clothes at the situation, I was simply making an observation, that the editorial team and the marketing team are often at odds with each other. The subscription offers are very much geared at giving the impression that it is a six month subscription. Yes you are correct that all parties should read the small print, however, this is simply a marketing ploy and at no point in the advert are you told how to cancel your subscription. Nor indeed is it spelt out in plain English that deductions will contine to be made from your bank account. It is to be frank just a little bit cheeky in giving the impression its short term, when in fact it's not.

Mark of Esteem, I do believe it is relevent to politely voice concerns on the forum. I have not been rude or abusive. I have simply stated my viewpoint in a polite manner. If reading my post is a waste of your valuable time. Can I respectfully suggest that responding to it in the manner that you did, suggests that you have a little more time on your hands than you would admit to. I probably wouldnt agree with every comment you make, however I do agree its your right to make it.

I've been purchasing this magazine for twenty years or more. I stand by my right to make an observation.
