Youngtimers from Lisbon...

An BMW E30 320is, the poor men M3, famous here as we had a 320is  only racing series...

This one seems to still addicted to race circuits...

The "Trofeu BMW 320is - Mobil 1" from 1990, 1991 and 1992 was a very popular single model championship here.

Baviera, the portuguese official importer at that time import 26 special models, with no sunroof and no extras, and probably this car is one of them.

They are white and have suspension, chip (+- 200cv) , exaust, alloy wheels and other goodies from Ac Schnitzer (one of the oficial Sponsors; AC Schnitzer, Yokohama, Bilstein, Eibach, Matter and Mobil 1.)

To prevent unfair advantages, before all races they made a lottery with the  chips to avoid that anyone can take advantage with "undercover" improvements.

In 1993 the trophy used the M3 E36 but never get the same popularity of the 4 cilinders cars.

From the 26 cars 3 never raced, and are the most coveted among the E30 fans, a fast growing community here.

I know some one who have a regular 320is and his father a special "trofeu" model from that batch of 26. he says that the special "trofeu" model  is a completly different car.

More classics spotted on (now more off...) the summer holidays road.

During my visits to José Alves, we are talking about the off road capabilities of the VW 181 "thing", and both agree that nothing can replace real experience, so we spend and entire afternoon playing like kids exploring the capabilities of his well preserved 71'  "bundeswehr" in the mountains around his house.

Some snaps...

Some movies...

Eventually we pushed the "thing" to its limits, and we stuck off a few meters of the highest point, when a rear whell jump out off the track...

Then we spend 1 hour  taking the "think" out, centimeter by centimeter...

.Out!...

And we return to the village with somemore dust over ourselfs, but happy...

Anorak fact...

The village is Vilar de Mouros, famous for held the first portuguese music summer festival in the 70's, some kind of  the "portuguese woodstock".

In the year when this car left the VW factory to serve in the German Army (1971),  Sir Elton Jonh  had performed  in the stage behind  the "thing"

As the press notice at the time...

Fresh catch,

A Land Rover (I think its a S2), spotted at the deep south of portugal during a surf trip last week-end...

Anorak Fact, Aljezur is a small village close to the coast and have some of the best portuguese surf spots, but during the  WWII it became the improbable scenario of an air battle between RAF and Lufwaffe on July 9th 1943 .

The RAF wins and more details about the curious facts that lead RAF and Lufwaffe to Aljezur, here...
