Which events are you attending?
Despite the summer being almost over, I am intrigued as to what events are on everyone agenda? A quick scout through the Diary section on this site can give you details and dates of quite a lot of ways to pass your time - classic car related. As for me, I am attending:
Cholmodeley Pageant of Power (a new one for me this year)
Silverstone Classic
Pebble Beach (first time here too!)
Goodwood Revival (naturally)
Hoping to also make the Spa 6-hours and no doubt a number of auctions in between them all.
Hello Mr Benovich ... sorry to sound so formal but you don't give a clue to your first name :)
Sounds an interesting itinerary and I hope you have a wonderful time - some posted photos/vids would be good. I am up to my wotsits in work, cars and car-related stuff so my movements are a little more limited this year. However, I am making an exception for the Silverstone Classic as I have never been before. The prospect of Group C and E-Type races has clinched it for me - plus the chance to let my (rather minimal) hair down with aged rocker Suzy Quattro and Wishbone Ash . Another first for me will be the fact that I plan to camp overnight (I have never set foot in a tent in my life).
I wondered if any Silverstone Veterans posting here have any advice for a camping/Silverstone virgin?
Silverstone Classic
Chelsea Auto Legends
Goodwood Revival
Le Mans Series at Silverstone
Spa Six Hours
Auto Moto d'Epoca (Italy)
Auto Retro (Barcelona)
Just checking .... do you mean attend as competitor/entrant or spectator?
Well, I can't speak for Trigger, but sadly I am a mere spectator at the events I am attending...
Just attending as a spectator. probably doing some racing next year but not sure.
Right O Trigger, have you decided what racing formula you will be doing yet
Well I might race with a friend in GT but not sure, first I need to get my racing licence back since the one I have is not valid in UK. the alternative would be to do some trackdays around Europe. What about you Jagnut?
So far this year I have been to:
Race Retro
Goodwood Festival Of Speed
I will be attending:
Silverstone Classic
Pebble
Beach
Goodwood Revival
NEC Classic Car Show
Have any of you been to Pebble Beach?
What is it like?
hi golfboy,
That is an enviable portfolio indeed. Are you Darren Clarke? :-)
If so, I imagine some of the Ferrari's will be in danger at the Pebble beach auction!
Been a few times and it's amazing, but has an ability to empty to wallet like nothing else on earth... even if you don't buy anything. Shoddy downtown Monterey motels think nothing of charging $300 a night (usual price $70) for the Monterey week.
The most important thing I would say, is not to think of it just as Pebble Beach because there is so much going on. You can't possibly get around it all and enjoy it all properly so you will need to pick and choose or run yourself ragged, but here are a few bits and pieces you might want to seek out split your time between.
Concours de Lemons
Concorso Italiano
The Pebble Beach concous tour (best place to catch it is when it stops in Carmel for lunch and all the cars are streetparked)
Laguna Seca (walk up the hill and watch them blasting through the Corkscrew, an absolutely essential classic experience. Take a hat, the sun is lethal up there).
RM Auction at the Portola Hotel in Monterey (pure theatre and a great evening's entertainment).
The Quail. Even if you haven't got a ticket go along and check out the Bonhams Auction, which is not in an area that you need an entry ticket for.
Get down to the Baja Cantina (Carmel Valley) one evening. Great atmosphere and always loads of classics in the car park (Thursday nights are best).
Pebble Beach: get there for the very start, it's best before it fills up and you can chat to owners on the fairway.
There's so much more to recommend, but that should do you for now.
