How should we celebrate our birthday?
What about a special "birthday" issue of the magazine centred on the best contents taken from sister magazines Autosport and Autocar published in the same month as C&SC first issue, and seen in retrospective?
Just raid the petty cash tin and go out and get trashed down the local. You've all earned it and we'll still buy the rag anyway.
Funny how you don't always have a grip on time. If the eighties just mean bad hair and bad music, it is easy to forget. How did we end up with Spandau Duran Thompson Twins Ballet after the sixties and seventies had been all about FUN? But if someone asked me "where were you in '82" and I stop and think, I was managing a garage in London by day and driving a Volvo minicab by night to scratch up the readies for a deposit on my first house. Then I think, that is over half my lifetime ago. That house, and a couple more have come and gone, fortunately despite the occasional doomed comeback tour, those mugs mentioned above have gone too. I can't even start to think how may cars have come and gone since that Volvo, some classic, some sports, some, I have to admit, neither.
But then I realise thirty years is a bloody long time, so well done all the scribes at C&SC for keeping the show on the road and here's to another thirty. Some acheivement.
