@Goodwood, I think I need to own a 309GTI - such an underrated car and looks bland enough that my wife might be persuaded that I'm being sensible. Plus I know of someone who happens to have an Mi16 mill sitting on his garage floor...

Not a glamarous list but the best car I have ever owned, still used as my daily hack.

1980 I started 850 Mini Saloon Deluxe, 850 Orange Minivan, 2 x Fiat 127 Sport :D. Then from 88 a run of Company Cars Vauxhall Astra, 2 x XR2, Rover 414, Cavalier SRi, Peugeot 404 1.6, Peugeot 309 Tdi. 1994 now back to buying cars myself 1975 Triumph Dolomite Sprint (sold it in 97 its still going too), XR2, Cavalier SRi.

Then in Sept 1999 I bought DVO Lotus Elise and still use the old girl to this day to get me to and from work. Currentley at 141k miles nearly 12 years.

To be honest not many cars around to tempt me out of it. Decent MPG, great road holding characteristics, swift and the best grin per mile you can have.

1974 VW Jeans Beetle

VW Scirocco (caught fire and so did my arm)

20 ish 2 litre MK5 Ford Cortina's bought for between £ 50 and £ 200 depending on length of MOT and Tax quantity of petrol in the tank could also dramatically increase the value of these cars. many snapped in half or got bent as they were used for an earlier business for pulling tree roots out of peoples gardens.

10 ish mini's used for getting wife to university, purchased on a similar principal to Cortina's. we were the envy of our street in down town Doncaster.

early 80's 2litre Vauxhall Carlton amusingly badly fitted with an Opal Manta gear stick that was possibly 18" too long. it eventuallly got stuck on a Rock.

Moggey Minor gear box snapped in 2 en route to Paris.

Daimler V8 Saloon bought to relive dreams of Withnail and I. when it was sold on e-bay the description said "Ideal car for out of work alcholic actor" it sold well.

Dorchester Limosine. My Dad raced it at Siverstone where it laped an AC Ace. However it didn't win.

Cars i still have

1928 Model A Ford Roadster. it is not a concourse car, however it has only caught fire twice, that i can remember.

1930 Model A Ford Tudor sensible family car

Renault 5. runabout for Liz

XJV12 Jaguar 1988 phwar. it has done 110mph in second gear. obviously not on the queens high way that would be a heinous crime

2 X DAF 33. you just gotta love elastic band power

Mighty Cortina 2 litre Zetech Locker diff massive skids. tastefull decked out with retro chav windscreen sticker saying "ME AARLASS" and a ferrit cabletied onto the radiater.

Piglet GN/Frazer Nash special. The best car in the world.

Can't believe I forgot the Mazda MX-5!  Damn I loved that thing, such a sweet car to drive but seriously needed double the power,  Incredibly reliable though.

For those based in the UK, my wife drove a local (Australian) market TD Cortina (the square shaped one, not sure of the UK model) that had a 4.1 litre Falcon 6 cylinder drivetrain in it.  It was HORRIBLE, the ultimate lead tipped arrow.  The moaning aussie falcon engine was a complete boat anchor and generated about as much power as an acquarium pump.   I think in South Africa they fitted them with little Windsor V8s instead which would have at least pretended to keep the weight balance somewhat more under control.  The little 1960s era Cortinas were such sweet, revvy little cars it's hard to imagine the flabby TD came out of the same company.

Nice shot Dougal! That presumably would be a special lightweight, fully homologated ferret...
