Hmm, must be a few current Mini owners out there? Forty grand for a basket case, anyone??

Like Speedangel I don't have a Mini, but I went through three or four back in 1978/79. I used to dabble a bit then (I worked for a small Renault dealer and I was able to get hold of part-exchanges, run them for a while and sell them out of the local paper at a bit of  a profit - it was all-so-easy in those days).

My best one was an El Paso Beige Mini 1000, '69/'70 on an H plate. Managed to collapse the back seat during a touch of 'courting' - remedied by three self-tappers, as I remember. My then courting partner has put up with me for the last 34 years, and one heart transplant, one kidney transplant and a rather fab daughter later (doner of said kidney), we're still together.

So, yes, Minis are great.

hahahaha lol :) I am loving your comment FergiesW, sounds like you have some great stories to tell, for sure. you see, that's why I absolultey love the classic car industry, so i can hear or read more amazing stories such as yours! Do you still have one or two pics you could show us? (Of the car please, not the other stuffs.. hehehe lol :) )

Thanks, Speedangel!

Unfortunately, I wasn't really into photographing my cars - I tended to treat them more as dealing pieces rather than things to particularly cherish. With the benefit of hindsight I wish I had indeed kept a photographic record of my automotive acquisitions.

DRAT! Re my initial post, I do actually know how to spell the word 'donor'! I blame this typo firmly on Stella Artois.

we can certainly let it go if the typo mistake was because of Stella Artois. lol :)

I always keep a record of my cars, especially pictures. Every time I look at them after few years, even if I sold them, they always bring back some great memories! and some not too great, like the time I broke down in my dad's Datsun back home and it was 35 degrees, It was hell but what a car it was!

A 65 Morris Cooper S, a 78 1275GT, a 91 'Mainstream' Cooper, the remains of a 88 saloon that has been turned into an Autotester and a half share in a Hustler 6.....

A '79 GT currently in the garage...my fourth Mini after a 1970 Harvest Gold 1000, a '76 1100 Clubman that I used for sprints, hillclimbing and the odd run-what-ya-brung drag meeting, and a '92 Rover Cooper SPi. Great cars all...

Even if I could afford to fill the garage with RS 911s, 246GTs, DB4GTs, SWBs, XKSSs and GT350s, there would always be space in the garage for a hot Mini.

I have decided I want a Mini. It's easy to lust after big, expensive and powerful cars, but living in London (or close enough for it to matter) there doesn't seem much point. Point to point the Mini's pretty damn quick, has a multitude of spares/upgrades is cheap to run, easy to find a space to park in, full of character and less likely to lose money than most. Sadly, as a perpetual classifieds creeper, I'll have changed my mind within a couple of weeks...
