Raison d'etre behind new range was the five-cylinder engine, up front with front-wheel drive, as usual for all Audis; it gave 136bhp with Bosch injection. Very refined BMW/small Mercedes-Benz competitor, with power-assisted steering, optional automatic transmission (standard on CD version) and near 120mph top speed, Replaced in 1982 by latest super-aerodynamic range, but front-drive package remains.
