AUSTIN 1800 MKII/S

4-door 5-seater saloon.

Revised version of original 'Super Landcrab' of 1964, in two tunes, most with 86bhp net, but S with twin carbs and 96bhp. All with familiar Issigonis front-drive transverse engine/gearbox in sump layout, plus sick-making Hydrolastic suspension. Very roomy, very practical, but Plain Jane style, unimproved by so-called 'Mk III' facelift of early 1972. Cabin and centre structure also formed basis for 3-litre (see below), and 6-cyl 2200 very closely related. displaced by 18-22 series cars of 1975.
