Third generation Sovereigns were substantially facelifted Series IIs, with new body 'greenhouse' by Pininfarina, same below waist. Recognised by new tail lamps, Jaguar engine now with 205bhp/fuel injection, plus five-speed manual (Rover) gearbox option. Various naming shuffles in early eighties, with this car eventually only known as '4.2'. No Vanden Plas trim after 1983.
