The original Anglia, little more than 1938's 7Y 8hp with built-out boot and - except in N. America - rectangular grille. Mechanical brakes, transverse-leaf springs at both ends, and the ultimate in choppy riding. Almost invariably black, though there was a colour choice. 1172cc engines in some export models.
