For 1975, Escort given rather anonymously smooth cabin on existing Escort underside and running gear. Built at Halewood and in several other countries. Mechanical line-up much as before, though mainstream 1600 version introduced for first time. Ghia instead of 'E' top-line trim, plus 1300/1600 Sport models instead of GTs. Automatic option on 1300s and 1600s, discs for all. Strictly conventional by Ford standards, and the public queued up to buy. Many more exciting versions (see below) also developed.
