First of the hairy Escorts, with reinforced bodyshell and the twin-cam Lotus engine in 109.5bhp form. Uprated suspension, servo front disc brakes, and 115mph performance. Flared wheel arches to take wider-rim wheels. Cars made up to June 1969 have rectangular headlamps.
