British Leyland 'invented' a new marquee after nationalisation, these cars being no more and no less than Austin/Morris/Wolseley 18-22 Series cars, with wedge-nose style, transverse engines, front-wheel drive, Hydragas suspension and lots of passenger space. Comfortable, but not all that fast (90mph for 1800, 104mph for 2000), and quality not living up to the promises.
