Lowered suspension, a brake servo, new 'hemi' cylinder head, twin dual-choke carburettors, and 90bhp on a 10.5:1 compression give you more performance than a full-house Cooper S - if not the handling of the Mini. Later cars (from '67 model year) have 1300 engine and five-speed 'box, are even faster. How about 0-50mph in 7.5 seconds?
