VOLKSWAGEN 1600/1600TL/1600TE

2-door 4-seater saloon/estate car.

The second generation Beetle, really, with the same basic floorpan, air-cooled engine layout, and underpinning, but with more anonymous styling. The saloon was a fastback, and the capacious estate 'Variant' was a good seller. Had front discs, and 65bhp at first. Optional automatic for 1968, and TL for 1969, while 1971 TE had fuel injection and 85mph maximum speed. The first anonymous VW, not almost entirely forgotten.
