VOLVO 66 SALOON/ESTATE

2-door 4-seater saloon/estate.

The Daf 66 re-engineered in detail but not re-styled, and rebadged as a Volvo following the takeover from Sweden. Renault power up front (47 or 57bhp, worldwide, but only 1.3-litre/57bhp in the UK), with Daf variomatic 'elastic band' automatic transmission at the rear. De Dion rear suspension and front disc brakes as before, in a car with character but limited performance. The figures show 85mph flat out (and 30mpg), but it felt much slower than that. If nothing else, however, the 66 was an ideal vehicle for city traffic.
