Beaulieu to celebrate Ford Escort's 50th birthday

A special Ford Escort display to celebrate the model's 50th birthday will form the centrepiece of this year's Simply Ford event at Beaulieu.

Owners of every generation of the Escort are being invited to drive across the New Forest and park up at the Beaulieu Events Arena, where they will join more than 1000 other Fords of all varieties.

The National Motor Museum’s own 1981 Escort RS1800 rally car will be on show at the event, along with other historic Fords including a 1914 Model T, 1967 GT40 and 1986 Sierra RS Cosworth and many others.

Other highlights on the day will include a Mondeo feature – at least three Mondeo clubs are already signed up – plenty of performance motors and a People's Choice Award in which visitors can vote for their favourite Ford of the show.

So far, 39 car clubs and owners groups, with a total of 750 vehicles between them, have already booked, and the organisers are hoping to beat last year's tally of more than 3000 visitors.

The Simply Ford day takes place at the National Motor Museum in the grounds of Beaulieu on Sunday 6 May. Anyone driving a Ford into the event will enjoy reduced-price tickets costing £10 (£5 for a child) if bought in advance online, or £12/£6 on the day. Other visitors are still welcome to visit, with normal ticket prices applying.
