Sale houses assemble Police line-up

Genuine ex-police sports cars seem to be like buses: you don’t see any for ages, and then two pop up in less than a week!

Hot on the heels of UK firm Historics consigning the ex-Metropolitan Police (and regular Goodwood Revival star) Daimler SP250 for it 22 October sale, Continental rival Artcurial has lined up a German equivalent for its Paris auction a week later, although its lofty estimate means you’ll have to a little deeper into your pocket to take this one to next year’s Revival Car Show.

The 1960 Porsche 356B Cabriolet is one of 68 lots at its Autmobiles Sur Les Champs sale on 30 October is one of 14 examples delivered new to Düsseldorf Polizei.

Nicknamed Weisse Mäuse (white mouse) the 356 was fitted with a flashing blue light on the windscreen, a siren and a sign on the rear numberplate that lights up to say Halt.

Other bespoke specifications included a right-hand mirror and a two-way radio, while mechanical enhancements extended to a supplementary 6V dynamo and an 80-litre petrol tank.

Artcurial’s example has been meticulously rebuilt and is only missing the two-way radio plus the car has the bonus of a later, more powerful Super 90 engine.

It’s up for €150-200,000. See Artcurial Motorcars for more.
