The 1963 'Harley Earl' Corvette nudged the £1million mark to sell for a mighty $1.5million at Mecum's Chicago auction.
Almost 1000 classics crossed the block raising a total of $18.5million, but the Corvette outsold the next priciest lot by a million bucks.
The reason for the interest in the car was that the 1963 one-of-a-kind styling exercise was given to the designer of the original Corvette who used it as his personal transport.
Lagging well behind at $500k was a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
