XJ-S with £60,000 of bills sells for under £9000

Biggest bargain at Barons on 28 February – against money spent rather than market values – was the 1985 Jaguar XJS-C that had been subject to a £60,000 nut and bolt rebuild in the hands of its late owner, yet which sold for £8910. And even that was above estimate.

As predicted a nicely presented 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda topped the results at Barons' Sandown Park outing on 28 February.

The Mercedes more than doubled the price achieved by the next best-sellers, a brace of 1954 MG TFs that sold for £17,500 and £16,800.

In fourth was a very fine 1986 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit that created a huge amount of interest and surged to £11,500.

The sale also offered a TWR XJ-S – a 1986 Jaguar Sport 6.0  with full TWR body kit – that made  £5950.

The bright orange 1971 Volkswagen Bay Window Caravenette with Dormobile interior and ‘rock’n’roll’ bed sold for £8970.
