McQueen's Bullitt jacket tipped to top half a million dollars

The jacket worn by Steve McQueen in several key scenes in Bullitt is coming up for sale and it is estimated to make a whopping $600-800,000.

The King of Cool's Frank Bullitt jacket will be sold in California at Profiles in History on 29 July.

C&SC says: even knowing that McQueen's Le Mans overalls came close to the $1million mark, and his watch wasn't far behind, this seems an extraordinary valuation for a nice-enough tweed jacket that could just as easily have belonged to your geography teacher. For those who want the jacket, but aren't that bothered who might have sweated in it 45 years ago, we found this splendid lookalike at Grand Prix Legends for a rather more affordable £199.
