Avantime owners to mark a decade of the cult Renault in the UK

A big owners' meet is being planned to mark a decade of the Renault Avantime in the UK.

The Patrick le Quément designed car went on sale in the UK on 16 May 2002, so the Avantime Owners' Club will drive their cars to the Transport Museum in Coventry on 7 April for a birthday party.

Just six months after its debut as a concept car at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show, the first production model of the Renault Avantime - which looked virtually identical to its concept – was unveiled at the 1999 Frankfurt and London motor shows.

With a six-speed gearbox and a three-litre, V6 24-valve engine, it produced 210bhp and a top speed of 140mph, but production only lasted 12 months, which has made the Avantime – also available in a 2.0 Turbo in Dynamique guise and a 3.0 V6 automatic Privilege – a real rarity.

Owners who pre-register for the meeting at www.avantime-owners.com will receive a souvenir pack to include a hardback copy of a book describing the work of Renault's former Design Director, Patrick le Quément.
