Buckinghamshire to host thundering classic racers

The Brooklands record-holding Napier-Railton will be in action at this year’s Kop Hill Climb on 21-22 September.

The car lapped the surry speedbowl at an average of 143.44mph in 1935, a speed that has never been bettered. To do this, it was fitted with a 24-litre, 12-cylinder Napier Lion aero engine that produced 502bhp.

Joining the Napier is the legendary Blower Bentley – the brainchild of Sir Henry Birkin – and the Talbot GO 54. The latter was part of the 1930s ‘GO’ team and will open each day’s proceedings.

In all, more than 400 cars and bikes will storm the hill and there will be a further 200 vehicles on display in the paddock.

The event will also include automobilia shops, a food court, Kop Hill ale on tap, a flypast from the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust Flight, wall of death, plus period music.

Meanwhile, youngsters can compete in the annual soapbox challenge.

The event, which is in its fifth year, has so far raised more than £125,000 for charity.

Advanced day tickets are charged at £8 for adults, while under-12s go free. Weekend entry is £16 per person.
