Organisers are promising ’Texas’ Greatest Vintage Weekend’ on 4-6 May with the launch of the inaugural Concours d'Elegance of Texas, to be held in the grounds of La Torretta Lake Resort and Spa, just north of downtown Houston in Montgomery, Texas, USA.

In an effort to rival US greats such as the Pebble Beach and Amelia Islands concours, the event will feature 16 classes for vintage and classic cars and motorbikes, with the main feature on Custom-Bodied Classics.

Further classes will include groups for: Antique and Vintage American or European through 1924; American Classic Open 1925-1942; American Classic Closed 1925-1942; American Convertible & Luxury 1946-1969; European Classic 1925-1942; European Classic 1946-1969; Sports Cars through 1955 • Sports Cars 1956-1969; Woodies; American Performance; Race Cars; Pre-War Preservation; Post-War Preservation; Pre-War Motorcycles; Post-War Motorcycles; and Old West Stagecoaches.

The concours kicks off on 4 May at 10am with a Concours d'Elegance Vintage Motoring Tour, while the event proper will begin with a 'Cowboys and Cars Kick-off Party' at 6pm on Saturday evening, with gates opening at 10am on Sunday morning for a 12 noon awards ceremony. Gates close at 4:30pm.

Tickets cost $20 in advance ($25 on the day), with accompanied children of 12 years and under getting in free. Call 001 855 262 9900 for details or see the website.

Running in tandem with the new concours will be The Houston Classic Auction in La Torretta Conference Center, with viewing from 3 May and the sale on Satuday 5 May.

Early consignments from a catalogue of more than 100 cars include a 1935 Bentley 3.5-1itre Drophead Coupe with coachwork by Kellner of Paris (above) and a selection of 17 exceptional 1936 Fords from the Paul J Meyer Estate Collection (top), all offered without reserve.
