Coys releases top-five prices from Ascot sale

| 10 May 2012

A gorgeous 1961 Jaguar E-type topped the results from Coys’ Ascot sale in newly released prices from 21 April.

One of only 150 flat-floor E-types, the fixed-head was restored 15 years ago, had covered just 66,000 miles and was supplied with bills going back to the 1970s, including a rear-axle rebuild and repainted engine bay. It raised £50,000 on the hammer.

Runner-up went to a 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL, which had covered only 6837 miles since an engine rebuild and sold for £46,000.

Meanwhile, a prize-winning 1961 Chevrolet Corvette with a guide price of £45-55,000 looked like a bargain – selling on the day for £33,500.

Fourth and fifth places went to a 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL and a Willow Green 1969 Jaguar E-type Series II, which sold for £33,500 and £31,500 respectively.
