England rugby stars launch epic classic adventure

| 29 Sep 2014

Former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio, World Cup winner Will Greenwood and ladies' top scorer Alexandra Matthews will swap their rugby boots for driving shoes in August 2015 to launch the Green Park Oval Ball Run.

The rally will run from 10- 14 August, just ahead of the Rugby World Cup, which takes place from 18 September to 31 October – though the two are not affiliated.

The sports stars will wave-off runs comprising up to 120 cars from Reading, Gloucester, Newcastle, Exeter, London and Oxford to Le Stade de France in Paris, with the beneficiaries  of the fundraising effort being the Dallaglio Foundation and Child Bereavement UK. The event will also raise money for new ladies changing facilities at Reading Rugby Football Club.

"Although the emphasis for the run is on classic cars, it is a very inclusive event," said organiser Tony Cole. "We're encouraging car entries of all types, including Edwardian, Vintage and Classic vehicles. As the Green Park Oval Ball Run is not a race, it is designed to be suitable for all."

"We are so grateful for the support of the Green Park Oval Ball Run as the monies raised from this event will enable us to support even more young people across the UK," said Dallaglio.
