Fabulous Jaguar wins the top prize at the National Motor Museum

| 29 Aug 2013

A 1958 Jaguar XK150SE drophead coupé landed the People’s Choice award at Beaulieu’s Simply Classic on 25 August.

Owner Mark Young was presented with a trophy and an Autoglym giftpack by Lord Montagu, before leading a cavalcade of the day’s 12 most popular vehicles.

The event, which was open to all pre-’88 vehicles, attracted clubs including the TR Register, the Austin-Healey Club and C5Alive. The latter had a parade run dedicated to the model, with 10 Sinclair C5s taking part.

Artist Ian Cook, of Popbang Colour, was on hand to demonstrate his quirky approach to painting – which includes using radio-controlled cars, tyres and toys – as he created an image of a VW Golf Mk1.

Derek Maxwell from Wiltshire, meanwhile, received a luxury Fortnum & Mason hamper for winning the prize draw for advance ticket holders.

The provisional date for next year’s event is 24 August.
