An incredible alloy-bodied 1956 Ferrari 250 Boano has been awarded the Best in Show award at the seventh Emirates Classic Car Festival in Dubai, which featured a concours d’elegance for the first time. The event, which took place from 19-22 March, was set against the stunning backdrop of the world’s tallest building – the Burj Khalifa – and gathered a collection of the Middle East’s most prestigious classics.

The ex-Enzo Pinzero 250 Boano was shown by owner Imtiaz Shaikh, who also brought a ’71 Maserati Ghibli Spyder SS. The cars form part of his 200-plus collection of vehicles – the Tomini Classics Gallery. “The Gallery is the first of its kind in the Middle East and we’re excited to share the enjoyment of this irreplaceable and appreciating art form,” said Shaikh. “Many people in their 50s and 60s are now well off and like classic cars because they remind them of their youth. The interest in viewing and acquiring classics is mushrooming and this presents an opportunity for foreign collectors and dealers to expand their clientele.”

Meanwhile, a 1952 Jaguar XK120 owned by Wael Buheiry became the first car in the United Arab Emirates to receive a Passport from FIVA.

The wide variety of classics on offer was reflected in the list of winners: a 1982 Citroën Eco 2000 prototype won the Best Microcar award, while a 1970 Range Rover Hunting received the Best Custom 4x4 prize.

Other British classics to win trophies included a 1976 Daimler DS420 and a 1954 Jaguar XK120SE.
