Huge line-up of cars set to appear at CarFest South

| 20 Aug 2013

Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans’ CarFest South will get under way at Laverstoke Park Farm – home to 1979 F1 Champion Jody Scheckter – near Basingstoke in Hampshire from 23-25 August.

The event brings the worlds of cars, music and food together for one weekend’s extravaganza.

Tackling the hillclimb will be everything from classic Ferraris – thanks to Evans’ Magnificent Seven Collection – to historic F1 cars, Le Mans machines and many more.

Scheckter is to top the bill, demonstrating the fantastic six-wheeled Tyrrell P34 F1 car in which he won the 1976 Swedish Grand Prix.

On Sunday, Scottish three-time World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart will lead a special parade of historic Aston Martins to celebrate the marque’s centenary.

The event will also host the second of the CarFest Silverstone Auctions sales of the year, which includes lots such as the 1979 Renault Estafette that starred in Rush (£15-20,000), a 1966 Austin Mini Mk1 (£5500-7500) and a ’65 Pontiac GTO Tri-power.

The live music, meanwhile, will come from Texas, who headline on Friday, while Saturday features performances from Keane, Ocean Colour Scene, Alfie Boe and Reef. Sunday’s lineup includes Jools Holland, Amy Macdonald and Scouting for Girls.

Meanwhile, the Britain’s Best Pavilion will host some of this country’s finest small producers of cheeses, meats, jams and juices – plus there will be the opportunity to make bread, butter and ice-cream at food workshops.

The show will also host air displays, jousting knights and the JCB Dancing Diggers.
Evans hopes to raise more than £1million for Children in Need.
