The MG Car Club will host in excess of 500 racing cars for its annual MGLive! meeting at Silverstone this weekend.

The two-day event will feature 16 races with around 550 racers contesting six MG championships, including the MG Trophy, Cockshoot Cup and Watt Electrical BCV8, plus four guest championships.

“Amongst the visitors we have Porsche on Saturday, Masters on the Sunday with pre-66 saloons, and of course Radicals on both days,” said MG Race Committee Chairman Ron Gammons. “Expect two days of club racing at its very best.”

The MG Trophy Championship for MG ZRs will be contested by 30 drivers, with current frontrunner Matt Turnball looking to extend his lead over rivals Paul Luti and Jack Roberts.

In addition to various MGB, Midget and Sprite races, the programme will be bolstered by the appearance of the Masters Series’ Pre-1966 Touring Cars, giving visitors the chance to see a varied grid of BMW 2002s, Lotus Cortinas and Ford Falcons battling it out against the ever competitive Mini Coopers.

The Equipe GTS field is expected to be the largest of the weekend, with high demand leading organisers to sanction four races throughout the weekend. Among the Alfa Romeos and TVRs will be two genuine ex-works MGBs.

Away from the track, around 3000 MG models spanning more than 90 years will be on display from the club’s various registers, while Wheeler Dealers’ Mike Brewer and Ant Anstead will host the Live Arena and stunt driver Russ Smith’s only UK appearance this year.
