The inaugural St Mawes Classic Car Festival in the beautiful setting of the renowned Cornish village gathered some eclectic stock thanks to the tireless efforts from organiser Amelia Whitaker.
A total of 17 cars entered the four-day Cornish-coastal-garden-themed festival ranging from a 1927 41/2 litre Bentley to a 1975 MGB roadster. The festival gave the car owners and friends a chance to sample some of Cornwall’s finest gardens including Trebah, Glendurgan and Caerhays Castle whilst staying at Olga Polizzi’s Hotel Tresanton. For those seeking an alternative to the garden visits there was a visit to the world renowned Pendennis super yacht builders.
The final day concluded with a concours for participants and other cars, the best of the 30 entrants being the 1950 Jaguar XK120 of Ron (above) and Stella Modell taking the main prize for post-war to 1965 classics. Other awards went to Richard and Gail Smith’s 1935 Derby Bentley and Tony and Eleri Lewis’ 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Volante.
At a post-event dinner a special award sponsored by organiser Amelia Whitaker's Nearwater Events was given to Preston ‘Pete’ Heller (above)for his enthusiasm and attitude throughout. The dates for a re-run in 2012 have already been set at 7-11 May.
