Mormon Meteors reunited in Utah

| 25 Jul 2012

A spectacular exhibition entitled ‘Speed: The Art of the Performance Automobile’ has opened at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts.

The display features 19 remarkable machines headed by the rare reunion of the Duesenberg SJ Mormon Meteor 1 and the 25-litre Mormon Meteor III.  Both are now fully restored and are a fitting tribute to Ab Jenkins, the Mormon speed legend.

Other beautiful record cars on show include the ’52 Beast III Streamliner, the So-Cal Speed Shop Belly Tank, and the ’75 Speedomotive Special.

Complementing the fantastic Bonneville machines are a set of exotic road and race cars that are worth the trip alone. Loaned by America’s foremost collectors, these include the ex-Steve McQueen Jaguar XK SS; an Alfa 8C Monza; and the ex-Roberto Rosselini Ferrari 375MM Scaglietti coupé.

The early years of high-performance motoring are dramatically represented with Mercer Raceabout and Stutz Bearcat.

If you’re going to Bonneville Speed Week this August, a diversion to the exhibition is a must. ‘Speed’ is open until 16 September; for more information click here.
