Motorsport at the Palace offers even more action

More than 250 cars are set to compete in this weekend’s sprint event to be held in Crystal Palace Park.

The meet attracts everything from cars such as the Ferrari Daytona, Renault R8 Gordini and Lotus Elan to Minis, Austin-Healeys and Ginettas, as they compete in classes spanning from the 1940s to 2012 to claim Fastest Time of the Day.

Owners who prefer polishing power can enter the Show and Shine Concours, with a prize given for the most immaculate car of the day.

Various trade stands, in addition to clubs will be out in force with the Colin Chapman Archive & Resource, the MG Cars Enthusiasts’ Club – who’ll be celebrating the B’s 50th Birthday – and GTR Owners’ Club joining others.

This year’s event also plays host to the Classic Motorcycle Racing Club and its collection of classic ’bikes and sidecars.

Meanwhile, Diggerworld gives visitors the opportunity to get behind the wheel of some heavy-duty earth-moving machinery.

The London Karting Company allows youngsters join the action in its child-friendly electric karts, while the Barrel Train will conduct tours throughout the weekend.

The paddock is open to visitors wanting to soak up the atmosphere and McLaren’s MP4-24 F1 car will be on display, with the team’s simulator giving the a taste of Formula 1.
