Rare classics gather for St Mawes' Festival

| 18 May 2012

The second annual St Mawes Classic Car Festival brought a host of rare machinery to the Cornish fishing village.

The event spanned over four days from 7 May and this year’s theme took in the best of Cornish art, sculpture and gardens with a visit to the Leach Pottery and Hepworth Museum in St Ives followed by a challenging drive to lunch at the Gunards Head.

There was also a time trial up the tree-lined drive at Tregrehan in St Austell, before taking in the woodland gardens.

An informal Concours d’Elegance judged by Bonhams and held at St Mawes harbour concluded the event. Nick Mason’s Ferrari 550 MM, which has raced four times at the Carrera Panamericana, won Best in Show, but Karen Richards in her Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica, Sandy Flockhart’s Alvis and Bill Horwood’s 1970s Aston Martin Vantage Volante, were also winners.

Next Year’s event will be from 6-10 May, click here to find out more.
