Salon Privé, the upmarket London-based supercar and classics concours, has secured a sensational collection of 15 Group C Porsches for its inaugural event at Syon Park in Brentford on 22-24 June.
The event, which mixes modern fare with classics, was previously held at the Hurlingham Club in Fulham, but has moved further out of town – to the London home of the Duke of Northumberland – in order to expand.
The move has had an immediate effect by tempting Canadian auction house RM to hold a sale during the show.
The Porsches will be the centrepiece of the classic part of the event. Among them are the first 956 produced, chassis 956 – 001, which started from pole position and won Group C in the hands of Derek Bell and Jackie Ickx on its debut at Silverstone in 1982. The same car carried out much of the development work that resulted in a clean sweep of podium places at the Le Mans 24hrs that year.
Other stars are chassis 956 - 008, a newly-built works car for the 1983 Le Mans that led for the first four hours, in the hands of Stefan Bellof and Jochen Mass and which went on to win the famed Norisring Gold race in front of over 100,000 spectators, again in the hands of the legendary Bellof.
As well as ‘works’ cars, the collection features ‘customer’ 956s supplied to teams such as Richard Lloyd, John Fitzpatrick, Joest, Kremer and Obermaier. Both of the surviving 956 ‘B’s in private hands also feature in the collection, which famously ran in their current Skoal Bandit and Liqui Moly liveries.
It is not just 956s, however, and the famous Rothmans or Shell Dunlop-liveried 962s will also be out in force including three Le Mans contenders.
On the modern car side of things, there are several UK show debuts planned including Jensen Interceptor R, Hennessy Venom GT, Maserati Gran Turismo MC Stradale, Aston Martin Virage and V8 Vantage S, and Eagle E-Type Speedster Lightweight. Crowds are sure to be drawn in particular to two cars, however, the Lamborghini Aventador and the world-record-holding Bugatto Veyron Super Sport.
Salon Privé Co-Founder, David Bagley said: “Salon Privé 2011 is going to be an excellent event; the interest we are experiencing from exhibitors is extraordinary. We’ve confirmed a number of UK debuts and many other very special vehicles. What’s more, we’ve substantially added to the event this year. Guests can now actually drive some of the cars on the super car lawn and we now have a bespoke, Quintessentially English RM Auction , truly adding to the interactivity.
“2011 marks another influential change to Salon Privé and that lies under our beautiful new venue, Syon Park, which delivers more accessibility, space and indulgence.”
