Second London Classic Car Boot Sale is a roaring success

| 19 Mar 2014

More than 15,000 people flocked to London's South Bank in glorious weather at the weekend for the second London Classic Car Boot Sale.

The enhanced, two-day event backed by C&SC and masterminded by Vintage by Hemingway cost just £4 for entry to browse some 100 classic cars and the retro wares on offer from their owners.

Plenty of visitors turned out in vintage clothing and snapped up everything from more apparel to LPs, radios and furniture.

There was also catering - from period and converted commercials - a double-decker bus bar, disco, mod scooters and more to keep the family entertained.

Triumphant designer Wayne Hemingway MBE was delighted the two-day format had proven just as popular as the one-day boot sale debut in October and promised more events both in London and further afield.

C&SC presented a special award for the best car at the show and, after much debate to even narrow it down to two, but the well-travelled Citroën SM was just pipped by Hilary Gallo's 1971 Fiat Dino 2.4 Coupé. He said: "I've had it for a year and love its understated beauty. Not only does it look great, but with the Dino engine, driving it is pure visceral pleasure: I had a great run to the show and back!

"The show was the best I've ever been to. It cleverly brought together cars with design and a definite period look so that there was something for all the family. It brought in interesting and varied people who had a lot fun."
