Sywell Classic Pistons & Props festival gets off to a flying start

2

The Sywell Classic Pistons & Props event has been declared a huge hit after attracting 50 car clubs and 10,000 visitors to the Northamptonshire aerodrome.

As well as displays of hundreds of classic cars and 'bikes, the two-day event last weekend (28-29 September) featured historic racers and dragsters, plus loads of action in the air including wing-walkers, aerobatic displays and flypasts.

Originally planned to be a biennial event, there is now talk of it happening every year.

Promising start blessed with good weather but much to take on board for the organisers.

Public access through one small gate was not good enough.
Runway is a long way from the crowd line - health and safety maybe but small go-karts make little impression from distance.
Food seemed to be of good standard and much better value than similar events.
Spectators need to get much closer to static aircraft.
Good selection of trade stands which will surely grow in number.
Action in air and indeed on the ground seemed at little 'sporadic'.
Nice atmosphere all day.
Rather too many MG's and I speak as an MG owner !

Roll on the next one........

VERY disappointed by the excessive entry fee of £17 then an attempt to sell us a programme for another £5!!!
Blower Bentley was in the public car park and not in show ground which seemed odd.
All in all a reasonable day and food was good but at these entry prices we most certainly will not be coming back.
