A stunning display of pre-war French coachwork, featuring the world’s most expensive car, will be the star attraction at Rétromobile.
Californian collector Peter Mullin has agreed to send 10 cars from his new Oxnard museum (below, C&SC September 2010) for the 1-5 February show at Paris’ Porte de Versailles complex.
The 2003 Pebble Beach Best of Show Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic is one of just four Atlantics built. It is considered to be the most valuable car in the world, after changing hands for a rumoured $30-40m in 2010. Chassis 374 was previously the star of noted Bugatti aficionado, the late Peter Williamson’s collection.
Other amazing cars to be shipped will include this year’s Pebble Beach-winning Voisin Aerodyne (below) and the awesome Hispano Xenia Dubonnet.
Delahayes will feature strongly, too, with three V12 cars on display, including the Chapron-bodied Type 145 coupé. The star, however, is likely to be Mullin’s 1939 Delahaye 165 Figoni & Falaschi-styled roadster (below), which was the talk of the 1939 New York World Fair.
