Timewarp Escort on sale for nearly £40k

| 21 Feb 2013

A 1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Mk2 that is described as ‘possibly one of the best in existence’ is up for sale at Edinburgh car dealer Derek C Mowat with an astonishing £37,500 sticker price.

Now worth well over three times its original value – even taking into account inflation – the car has just 12,000 miles on the clock.

It is completely untouched, however, sitting on its original factory-fitted Pirelli rubber.

The Ford has never been resprayed and is said to be immaculate.

All that has been changed are perishables such as the steering-rack gaiters.

Accompanying paperwork includes the original purchase invoice and handbook, service book, RS supplement and the RS Owner Club’s inspection document that confirms its originality.

Delivered new to Mary Hughes in Reading, the Escort was owned by a handful of keepers before being acquired for a collection in ’91.

Confidently described by the vendor as ‘a blue chip investment, like fine vintage wine – only ever likely to increase in value’, you can view the car’s full description on the dealer’s website.
