Common sets charity best

Held on 28 July, the machines that turned up for Classics on the Common in Harpenden were anything but common.
There were 1200 cars and commercials, plus 275 bikes. Organiser David Law, from the local Rotary Club, was delighted with the turnout: "We've raised £12,000 for charity."
Variety is the spice of life, and a '69 Mustang Mach 1 parked next to a ripple-bonnet 2CV certainly was testament to that.
Nearby stood the marvellous '35 Morris 10-6 Cunard Special that Ian Harris bought in 1970. "It was our family car back then," explained wife Norma. "Ian never gets rid of cars; he's gone to look at another in Hereford in his '63 Rover 110, so Beth drove us here."
As daughter Beth pointed out, though: "It was a team effort; Mum did the handbrake. The accelerator and brake are the wrong way round, but we didn't crunch the gears once."
