Untouched Bouton sold

| 13 Dec 2010

Considered one of the greatest finds of the century, this highly original c1900 de Dion Bouton vis-à-vis was sold recently by French auctioneer Osenat at Fontainebleau.
The first owner, a JB Damour of Rue de Suresnes in Garches, near Paris, gave it to the great-grandfather of the most recent owner, who lived in the same street. He didn't allow anyone to touch it, let alone drive it, and this tradition was carried on by his family.
The cylinder head is cracked, but the woodwork is tip-top, complete with original de Dion Bouton transfers and lamps, and leather hood.
The car fetched €105k, almost double its estimate.
